In this class, we will develop a subtle understanding of the construction of the head, hands, and feet. This will include a study of the planes, axis, and volumes, and the structure of the bones and the muscles to show how they play and interact, creating action and character.
Emphasis on:
• Axis–head positioning and perspective
• A reliable general model
• The planes and volumes
• Alignments and development of facial features
• Personality and Expression
• Practical hands/Hands that express
• Expressive feet/Practical shoes
We will cover:
• The 3 Coordinates©
• A simple symmetrical model of the Head
• Facial features
• Solutions for imperceptible perspective difficulties that can ruin a drawing
• Bones and the muscles–Why it’s important to know them
• Common mistakes with the face that everyone makes
• The neck and its attachment to the head & body
• Light & Tone–modeling form
• Hats and Hair
• The portrait–how drawing somebody, anybody, breaks the symmetry
• Character and Expression
• Caricature–Style and Technique
• The breakdown of 2D and 3D Hands
• Feet–drawing the planes, surfaces, and angles with understanding
