This is a foundation figure drawing class featuring drawing mechanics from the fundamentals to the most advanced techniques. We will emphasize and cover key drawing concepts such as the description of form, gesture, line of action, structure, anatomy dynamics and the figure as story.

This course is designed to ratchet up your fundamental understanding of structure and form with attention to anatomy, conceptualizing form, and troubleshooting difficult poses. We will work on the description of form with tone in medium length to longer more complete drawings There will be emphasis on the integration of the parts, compositional structure and anatomical relationship.

We’ll be drawing with clear-cut ideas on the active folds, observing and exploring how they work and participate in expressing action. We’ll address the confusions, cover the role of passive folds, wrinkles, design and shape, and costume as character.

In this class we will develop a subtle understanding of the construction of the head, hands and feet. This will include a study of the planes, axis and volumes, and the structure of the bones and the muscles to show how they play and interact, creating action and character.
